While others are relaxing in their homes, or watching movies or probably eating, brave souls came out to test themselves in duathlon at Balete, Batangas for the Batangas Earth and Fire Festival 2016 presented by Lima Park Hotel, First Asia Institute of Technology and Humanities and Team Ganit.
Some 70 brave men and women, young and adult, defy the odds of heat, distance and speed to outlast each other in the challenging terrain of Balete, prepared by Batangas’ Team Ganit.
The duathlon trail is divided into three:
- 5 km run
- 20 km bike
- 3 km run
The race started at around 3pm.
I believe the time itself brought more challenge to the competitors, as aside from the trail, they have to endure the heat of the day.
So, it was not surprising that after a few minutes the race started, the once, that looked like a school-of-fish when started, turned to far-apart racers’ competition.
It became evident how challenged the participants were as the race progressed.
That’s why I admire the participants, whether they were ahead or behind, as the challenge of the Batangas Earth Fire Festival 2016 is for REAL.
It is not just distance that they had to endure, but also the heat and control on the uphill and downhill obstacle.
While the racers are battling out for the time, many of the people, both local and visitors, enjoyed the combined efforts of the local government and private sector in encouraging tourism in the area.
With a great view of the Taal Lake, Lima Park Hotel and John Prats’ Nayomi Sanctuary Resort and Dynamite Aquasports, put together water attractions for tourists to enjoy.
Lima Park Hotel provided a boat-tour of the whole lake, while Nayomi Sanctuary Resort and Dynamite Aquasports were in-charge for water sports adventure like speedboat ride, flying fish, and banana boat activities.
The Taal Lake Tour, via the Lady of Lake boat of Lima Park Hotel, normally takes an hour to an hour-and-a-half which involves a cruise to different sports within the lake. A tour guide educates guests of information about the lake.
The heat of the sun did not stop both the competitors and tourists to enjoy the outdoors of Balete, Batangas. And people stayed until night for the fireworks, fire dance and of course, the announcement of winners.
