If you happen to be craving for something mediterranean or wanting new to try in Quezon City, then you can head out to the Maginhawa food strip to check out Skewr.
Skewr is a new food joint at the corners of Maginhawa and Makadios Streets. It is a new that has a few twists on its own to blend in with the Filipino pallet to try something new or a craving for mediterranean cuisine.
I was able to try some of Skewr’s offerings last week, so here it goes.
SKEWR PITA STRIPS with FIRE FETA (Php 80)
For starters, I tried the Skewr’s Pita strips with fire feta. The crispy pita sticks alone was a good bite, but dipped into fire feta, it is a combo just worth starting for a good meal.
SKEWR BEEF SHAWARMA WRAP (Php 120)
If there is something worth expecting to be good in a mediterranean restaurant in the Philippines, it has to be a shawarma. Shawarma being one of the most widely accepted and popular mediterranean food by Filipinos.
The tender, juicy beef slices mixed with vegetables can be seasoned with any of Skewr’s condiments to add flavor to this beef shawarma. You wouldn’t be disappointed that you tried Skewr’s version of beef shawarma.
SKEWR CHICKEN PESTO MELT (Php 120)
Another worth the try is the Skewr chicken pesto melt. It is a pita sandwich filled with roasted chicken combined with melted cheese and pesto. I like how the roast chicken and melted cheese sits into my taste palette. Better if you would pour in some of Skewr’s sauces too.
SKEWR RUSTIC CHICKEN PIZZA (Php 220)
Topped with chicken in red sauce, this baked pita bread is their version of pizza. I don’t know the other dishes had a fill on my taste buds first, in a way, that the rustic chicken pizza didn’t get any unique registry on my food memory.
SKEWR PASTA (Php 150)
If there is any dish that you wouldn’t want to miss trying in Skewr, it would be the Skewr Pasta. The juicy and tender beef shawarma into the seasoned pasta infused with Mediterranean spices gives that unique blend in the mouth.
For heavier mediterranean food load, I was able to try three of their rice-loaded main solo specials the: Rubia Krab Yaqla, Luleh Kebab and Shish Kebab. I tried the three with Biryani rice, served with salad on the side.
SKEWR RUBIA KRAB YAQLA (Php 180)
Top on the list to try is the rubia krab yaqla. Three are fritters filled with crab, fish and shrimp served with rice. Pardon for forgetting to take a photo of how it looks inside, but that is how good it was to me, to munch my share of the sample I was served.
SKEWR LULEH KEBAB (Php 170)
The spiced grilled ground beef of the luleh kebab is my second pick among the three rice meals. That unique mediterranean blend packed in a stick of spiced beef hit that spot of my craving.
SKEWR SHISH KEBAB (Php 170)
The marinated roasted chicken is flavorful. Only for me of course, at the time I tasted, the luleh kebab first, so for my taste, the beef was more flavorful, that is not to suggest that the shish is not good. It is only different if you line up many dishes to eat at one time to eat. 😉
SKEWR YEMA CHEESECAKE / BLUEBERRY CHEESECAKE / CHOCOLATE PECAN
Skewr has three desserts, for now, the yema cheesecake, blueberry cheesecake and chocolate pecan. Among the three, I’d still go for the blueberry cheesecake first, next would be the chocolate pecan and yema cheesecake the least.
SKEWR YOGURT (Php 80)
Partnering your meal with any of Skewr Yogurt is just great. A choice of strawberry or vanilla, you can never go wrong between the two. The thick, soothing blend of the yogurt is just right after or in between meals, especially that they serve it cold in cool glass containers.
SKEWR ICED TEA (Php 50)
The Skewr Iced Tea is also a nice mix for any food that you’d want to try. It is specially blended with tanglad or lemongrass, so the tea is not the usual fast food kinda iced tea.
On a side note, I was also able to talk a a bit to the sibling and business partners of Skewr, Marlene and Bee Jay Burog. The company running Skewr is the same company behind Khaleb, the shawarma foodcart business, mostly seen in malls.
WORTH THE MUNCHING TIME
If I have to suggest anything worth trying first, that would be the Skewr Pasta, Yogurt, and the Rubia Krab Yaqla. Each has its unique taste that can complement each other during the course of a full meal, should you want to get a good munching time at Skewr.
