FACT: Knowledge is power.
You need to have the right information on things – dandruff included.
In many ways, dandruff has haunted many people for decades. Some just gave up on fighting it off, after trying many times. Now, for those who still continue the battle, here are three myths that you need to know to have better chances of getting rid dandruff for good.
MYTH #1: Dandruff is contagious.
TRUTH: Many believe that dandruff is contagious like the other more common hair problem: lice and nits. Some also say that because dandruff is caused by a fungus, it may also spread like other fungal infections. Experts, however, say that dandruff is not contagious, mainly because the elements perceived as infectious, like fungus and microbes, are naturally occurring elements in small numbers in the skin. When there’s overproduction in these elements, that’s when dandruff happens. So essentially, the condition is not due to catching it from other people.
MYTH #2: Dandruff is hereditary
TRUTH: Some may blame genes for dandruff, saying that they have the problem because it’s in the blood. The exact cause of dandruff, however, is still unknown to science. The cause mentioned earlier, increased production in fungus, is just one of the probable causes of dandruff. There are many others, like poor hygiene, chronic illness, stress or weak immune system. It may also be hereditary. Nevertheless, there are no conclusive studies that say that dandruff is genetic.
MYTH#3: Dandruff treatments are all the same
TRUTH: Most of the anti-dandruff shampoos in the market give that temporary relief from severe itchiness. But many of them just wash off flakes, but never really treating the fungi in the scalp, which is the root of the problem.
Having the right shampoo, medicated, for that matter, is what is needed in addressing dandruff.
Selenium Sulfide is one of the medications that treats dandruff and certain scalp infection (seborrheic dermatitis). Selenium sulfide is the main ingredient of over-the-counter medicated shampoo Selsun Blue.
Selsun Blue has 1% Selenium Sulfide active ingredient. Plus, it has Honeyquat 50 to effectively moisturize from within and restore natural shine, Menthol to soothe itchy scalp and Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin B5 to condition hair.
When using the medicated shampoo, allow Selsun Blue to remain on the scalp for two to three minutes before washing it off.
Selsun Blue is best if used at least twice a week (or as prescribed by Dermatologist).
Selsun Blue is available in two varieties:
