Archos, known for its multimedia technology, is making waves in the local tech scene as it launched the Gen 9 Tablets.
The Gen 9 Tablets boast of the following features:
- up to 1.5Ghz Dual Core processor
- HD playback (1080p)
- HD Camera (720p)
- Large Disk Space (up to 250G)
- Connectivity (out of the box Bluetooth, WIFI)
- 3G capability (add-on dongle)
- 8 to 10 ” capacitive mutitouch screen
- Android Gingerbread
- USB Port
- HDMI Port
- Out-of-the-box compatibility
The kind of specs put into a tablet with a price range not over Php 20,000 for the 10.1″ G9 Tablet, it is absolutely worth the look and try of every mobile device buyer.
Reason #1 The 3G dongle option makes it a ‘smart-buy’ since out of the box you get a WIFI-capable tablet unit at less than 20,000 pesos. And if ever, you decide to go 3G, there is no need to buy another tablet just to get the 3G capability. Against competing brands in the market today, tablets are locked to either WIFI-only or 3G/WIFI tablets. Hence a buyer is outright deciding which kind of connectivity he or she prefers. And if ever, later on, you are to decide to go 3G, you have to buy another unit.
The 3G dongle is worth Php 3,000. The Archos 3G dongle can also be used on other devices (laptops, computers)
Reason #2 The 8″ Archos G9 Tablets have 250G capacity that can store 40 HD movies. (That’s a lot for a tablet)
Reason #3 The battery can last up to 10 hours – while watching movies. More or less it has a long battery life.
Reason #4 Archos is offering up to 1.5Ghz dual-core units on the G9 Tablets.
Reason #5 Universal device – the G9 tablets have HDMI port, USB port, Bluetooth, WIFI, and 3G capable (with dongle)
Reason #6 Out-of-the-box compatibility with video formats, documents and photos.
Reason #7 Lightweight + with built in kick stand (so no more need for expensive tablet stands)
At first the feel of the body is different, feels like ‘cheap plastic’, however, I was corrected that the casing is made of mixture of plastic and metal. Archos said their units are sturdy.
PERSONAL NOTE: During the press conference, one of the tablets (10.1″ G9 Tablet) fell on solid ground from a four-feet platform. Luckily, the unit still worked after. Though, personally, I wouldn’t want my unit to test that kind of beating. 😉 Plus, it’s not a guarantee that all units can take that kind of fall.
Archos said that each tablet has Seagate HDD inside. Although, I just don’t know how long will an HDD last during very mobile nature of tablet users.
Php 19,995 – 10.1″ G9 Tablets (This is the most expensive in the Archos Tablet line)
I still have to try the real thing, in order to really know the full capability of the unit. However, looking at the specs and price point, I think it is worth the money you spend for the unit. Well, with how the tech industry is moving so fast nowadays, I wouldn’t put so much money on buying top of the line gadgets (unless, really worth it), since more often than not, after six months or so, a new BETTER version comes out rushing, either from competing brand or an upgrade of the existing product.
So goes your gadget at hand to be outdated in just matter of months. 😉
