There are only few things I think of whenever I hear of the word “Chuck”.
One of course is the style of shoes, “Chuck Taylor” by Converse, popularly called as “Chucks”
Now, there is another “Chuck” that I find very much interesting. This time, it’s edible. 🙂
Chuck’s Deli is a relatively new sandwich restaurant in Metro Manila. It started November last year in Serendra. This sandwich house is owned by Chef Katrina Kuhn-Alcantara and Marco Alcantara. A husband-wife team up.
I, together with Cristelle of GirlandBoyThing (and other bloggers / OpenRicers) visited their Eastwood Mall branch in Libis, Quezon City. The place looks neat from outside the resto. The clear-glass frontage of Chucks’ Deli gives a good impression for passersby to get a vibe of what’s to try inside.
The tables are just simple that make anyone feel welcome. What is also noticeable inside the resto is that every table has sauces (garlic and chili garlic) and a bottle of hand sanitizers. The sanitizers, I think, makes a good impression of their good sanitation and a good reminder (even excuse) for people who are in a hurry getting a much on the sandwiches.
Chuck’s Deli Sandwiches are ‘feasts’ to the eyes already. The way each sandwich is served in a slab (thus, the name) makes me wonder how tasty each offering be. We were served eight different sandwiches to try:
- Reuben – angus corned beef, swiss cheese, sauerkraut, mustard – Php 275 (1/2 slab) | Php 495 (1 slab)
- Faking duck – (peking-duck inspired) roast pork, lettuce, hoisin sauce, leaks and crispy noodles – Php 195 (1/2 slab) | Php 345 (1 slab)
- California wacky – kani, mango, egg, lettuce, wasabi mayo – Php 225 (1/2 slab) | Php 445 (1 slab)
- Chorizo Burger – chorizo patty, lettuce, tomato, spicy garlic sauce, mayo mustard – Php 225
- Chuck’s Burger – US angus beef patty, lettuce, tomato, spicy garlic sauce, mayo mustard – Php 265
- The Buffy – buffalo (buffy) chicken and garlic sauce
- Footlong Chillidog – classic footlong, condiments, grated cheddar cheese, no-been chili, diced jalapenos – Php 395
- Philly Cheese Steak – beef, american cheese, onion, bell peppers, mushrooms – Php 295
Plus, onion rings and fries.
Each sandwich has unique taste. The breads alone are tasty. The unique blend of each ingredient, for each sandwich, has a different ‘thrill’ to my taste buds. 🙂
The Reuben packed with angus corned beef (which Chuck’s prepare on their own) was a delight. Their footlong chilidog was a treat. I love these kind of sandwiches.
Chuck’s Burger, a real treat for a burger-lover like me. The taste is comparable to Brothers’ Burger. Only this time, you can add garlic or spicy garlic sauce for a different taste.
Chorizo burger offers a spicy taste. This is a must-try for people who love burger with extra spicy feel in the mouth.
California Waki, this, was a surprise to my taste. Their version of the famous japanese-inspired food was great. I’m not used to eating ‘maki’ with bread, but theirs tasted fabulous.
Faking Duck offered quite a funny, but delicious taste. Tasty, like the original peking duck, only this time it is pork. I like the twist of the taste.
Chuck’s Deli offers different types of drinks, from local to imported sodas, beers, wines, milkshakes, juices and smoothies.
What I tried was a vegetable shake – Lettuce. An excellent, refreshing taste after a meaty collection.
In a span of three to five (3 to 5) minutes, a chosen Chuck’s Deli Slabwich can be served to customers. Another fact is that Chuck’s Deli produces their own bread and fillings. Making me feel secure that the taste will be consistent. The company has its own commissary that enables them to manufacture ingredients at their own timing.
What I like about this sandwich house is that they have an “open” kitchen. Any customer can take a peak on how the orders are being prepared. This can make any anxious customer feel relaxed, seeing how his or her order is ‘taken cared’ of by the crew.
Chuck’s Deli is a great place. The sandwiches are attractions – by look and taste. Each of the eight sandwiches I tried were fantastic. Fabulously-thought ingredients for that good-tasting finish in the mouth. This place is a definitely must-try for any foodies or hungry adventurer. Each sandwich is actually a full meal for any regular eating.
My personal favorites are: Reubens, Faking Duck, California Waki, Chuck’s Burger, Footlong (LOL! it’s almost all of the sandwiches I tasted). Even the names sound catchy. 🙂
Definitely, a ‘must-comeback’ for me. Next time, I will try other sandwiches. And may try to ‘Slay their BUFFY (buffalo sandwich)’ and be in the few people who ate the whole slab under five minutes.
This “Chuck” is definitely a keeper. 🙂 I might try eating Chuck’s Deli sandwiches while watching my favorite ‘Chuck’ series. Though, the ‘Chuck’ show features a different brand of sandwich. Hehehehe… Ironic. 😉
