One of the best places to go to whether it is Christmas season or summer, is Baguio City. That’s why even at a short notice, I, together with my my fiancé Cristelle, and two other blogger friends Aylin and Alwin, did not hesitate to take a three-day Baguio City tour before the holidays.
Off we went and road the 8pm bus from Quezon City and headed to Baguio City on a pre-Christmas getaway.
Baguio City Hotel
There are lots of choices of Baguio City hotels. But in our case, it’s Azalea Residences for three days.
It was my first time to try Azalea Residences. Intentionally, I did not research about it on the internet, so I would really have no idea about the place, and hopefully, it would surprise me. (UPDATE: check-out my second stay in Azalea Residence with family here)
By the time we arrived in Baguio City, which was around 2:30am, we were picked up by a van at the Victory Liner Terminal. We definitely didn’t miss the van, since a big Azalea Residences logo is wrapped-around the van.
Azalea Residences is located in Leonard Wood Loop, just near Teachers’ Camp and a few minutes from bus lines like Victory and Genesis. and about 10 to 15 minutes away from all the great places to go to in the city.
Geographically, Burnham Park, Mines View Park, The Mansion, Philippine Military Academy, Session and Kennon Roads, Mount Santo Tomas, Lourdes, Camp John Hay, Strawberry Farms and all sorts of tourist attractions, are just minutes away from the hotel.
From the terminal, the hotel was just a few minutes away. And when we arrived in Azalea, it was totally dark, but then, the frontage of the hotel lit up the dark surroundings and made my first impression of the place raised to a higher level than I expected.
ARRIVING AT AZALEA RESIDENCES
Front desk staff were waiting for us to check-in.
After a few minutes of presenting IDs and filling-up of forms, we were on our way to see our room.
And since, I did not check out any info and photo about Azalea, I was quite a thrill for me to picture the kind of room that I will be staying at for the three days.
So we went to room 201 . Lo and behold. The three-bedroom suite.
Room 201 is a three-bedroom suite with living, dining and kitchen areas. There are two bathrooms, one in the master’s bedroom while the other one is between the other two bedrooms.
The living room and bedrooms are equipped with widescreen LED TVs, plus DVD players.
The living room has a couch, convertible to a sofa bed, just in case needed. There is a very relaxing and comfortable egg swivel chair that is both fashionable and comfortable.
Azalea Residences is a relatively new Baguio City Hotel – housing a variety of suites to choose from, suitable for single, couple, family or group stay in the City of Pines.
It boasts of its 99 suite rooms (46 deluxe, 17 one-bedroom, 33 two-bedroom and 3 three-bedroom) ranging from 30 to 75 sqm – all equipped with complete amenities of a living, dining and kitchen areas. (RATES of ROOMS here)
The suites are pretty spacious for its recommended capacity per room. Each room is equipped with:
- Queen-sized beds
- LED TV with cable connection
- DVD Player
- Wifi access
- Telephone with IDD/NDD
- Safety deposit box
- Ceiling Fans
- Bathroom(s) with hot and cold Shower (of course, you would definitely prefer a very warm shower up in Baguio)
- Living Area with a convertible couch (to bed) and the egg-chair
- Dining area with table and high chairs
- Kitchen with electric stove for cooking and available kitchenwares and utensils, plus refrigerator
MAKE IT MORE SPECIAL
Now, if you think that you want “more” from your room, Azalea Residences can arrange pretty good tricks to suite your need.
For honeymooners or couples on a getaway, a special arrangement can be done, hours before arrival, to arrange a deluxe room into a “Romantic Suite.”
Specially designed to tailor the need and like of the couple, Azalea staff and crew can customize the room and decorate it with fresh flowers (depending on availability and choice) plus a chilled bottle of champagne to cap the night of the couple together – making it as memorable as possible while staying in the hotel.
FAMILY or GROUP SPECIAL
Now if you are with your family, and a big one, plus, you have the extra money to spend, a sure upgrade from a three room suites would be the Azalea’s Presidential Suite, which, at first glance was fantastic.
Azalea Presidential Suite is a big upgrade of the three-bedroom suites in terms of design and area. It has a loft where the bedrooms are located. Like the other rooms it has a kitchen equipped with wares and utensils that the group or family can use.
It can accommodate a maximum of 8 to 10 persons, as per regulations of the hotel. But surely, even 10 people can easily fit in the room leisurely.
The interior is heavily designed to fit a very comfy, inviting and soothing ambience of a highly-sophisticated country cottage or cabins – highlighted by an electronic, visual fireplace. Neat and safe.
Decors and furnitures in the presidential suite is evidently detailed, showing a notch higher from their already sophisticated other suites.
The Azalea Residence Presidential Suite is one of the newest creations of the hotel. Its published rate is Php 32,000 per night.
SERVICES and FACILITIES
Azalea Residences is quite like any hotels with services and facilities altogether comforting, assisting and making guests get more out of just occupying spaces and beds.
Azalea has an outdoor playground for kids to enjoy.

Here are other things that the hotel has:

And if you feel like staying often every year in Baguio, and opt to stay in Azalea, they have timesharing option that you can avail.
Azalea Residences has an in-house restaurant called Tradisyon (click to view the article about the restaurant)
- Lots of electric outlets. Ideal especially if with family or group, so that there wouldn’t be a lack in charging gadgets
- Large TVs
- Availability of stoves and kitchenwares ready for use with NO EXTRA COST
- For women concerned about their hairstyles, there are hairdryers in the room that they can use
- Two comfort rooms for bigger suites (like in our case, there are two CRs, one in the master’s bedroom and one between the two other rooms)
CONS: (not a big deal, and may even be a pro for parents)
- In our room, just don’t know in other rooms, the wifi connection is already weak in my spot. Probably due to my room being at the far end of the suite. But, once you go out to the dining and living room, the internet was great. It can be advantageous for parents who would want to “limit” their child/ren’s time on their gadgets. In my case, I was able to sleep earlier. Lol! Since, there is no internet connection.
- Plus, the signal in our side of the hotel is very low, at times, no signal at all. But once we got out of the room, the signal in all three networks are good
Azalea Residences Baguio is more than what I expected it to be in a Baguio City hotel.
Azalea is more of a condo unit you would wish to stay longer, if not, call it your own. The simple, yet elegant interior they did on the suites is simply great. There is a pampering and comforting touch to it without being to loud or obvious about it.
I don’t know how to put it in words, but, staying in Azalea made me feel like it is my home, and not alienated about the place.
The ample space inside the suites is just wonderful. Making enough room for everyone to comfortably and leisurely move around.
The kitchen is also a big plus for those staying longer and prefer to their own food.
Again the simple yet elegantly decorated interior is a plus factor in making the stay more in pleasing. The visual comfort that the interiors give is such a relief especially for people escaping the busy lifestyle in the metro.
So I can’t blame myself, why at times, when I was in Azalea, that I wanted to just burry myself under the sheets. Good thing, there are other things that I haven’t tried in Baguio, that Azalea arranged for us to do. (Will post things to see and do in Baguio City)
Combined with the very inviting weather up in Baguio City, who can argue to stay in Azalea?
That’s why, during the last morning we were there, I was quite saddened. Because, I had to leave with a heavy heart. Three days was not enough to really relax in a place like Azalea.
And I am pretty sure, that my “suite-mates” within those days are thinking of the same thing.
So, if you’re planning to go to the City of Pines, and are looking for a Baguio City hotel, I highly recommend staying in Azalea Residences. They can also arrange tours for you where both the known places and the unpopular, yet, interesting places in Baguio City can be visited.
